Welcome to the Jørn Utzon Research Network
- Details
The 'Jørn Utzon Research Network' (JURN) is designed to expose Utzon's design paradigm to the international academic and practice communities through the development and dissemination of the Jørn Utzon archive. This archive, comprising some 25,000 drawings and sketches, notebooks, sketchbooks, photographs and film provides a unique insight to the work of one of the most influential architects of the twentieth century. Utzon's canon of work represents a particular thematic framework, focused upon a tectonic, phenomenological and poetic approach to design developed through a broad engagement with context, place, naturelandscape, trans-cultural influences and what we now term sustainable architecture.
The Network is designed as a dynamic, virtual space that encourages research, discourse, testing and dissemination of the Utzon paradigm. In addition JURN will, in collaboration with the Utzon Research Center, initiate workshops, exhibitions, publications and symposia within a diverse range of research themes.
Academics, students and practitioners are invited to register and become members of JURN to develop the depth and breadth of the network, to be aware of the range and content of research activity and be informed of forthcoming events. Members are also encouraged to post research outputs, images and associated material on the website.
Introduction – The Utzon Paradigm
- Details
"Comparable in subtle ways to the protean achievements of Le Corbusier, Utzon’s architecture emerges today as paradigmatic at many levels not least of which is the manner in which, from the beginning of his career, he would challenge the assumed superiority of Eurocentric culture."
